Dr. Carol Ward is a Curators’ Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences and Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the University of Missouri. Her research focuses on reconstructing human evolution from the fossil record. She has worked on early hominins, postcranial anatom of early hominins, the evolution of locomotor adaptations in Miocene apes, and the functional anatomy of torso form in primates, among other things. She currently co-directs the West Turkana Paleo Project, a non-profit organization searching for fossils of early human ancestors and their environments in Kenya. She also maintains an active lab research program on anthropoid primate functional anatomy. Dr. Ward is a Fellow of the American Association for Anatomy as well as of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
