Sarah Hakam is from Sugar Land, Texas, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Honors Biomedical Engineering with a Minor in Chemistry from the University of Houston. During her undergraduate career, Hakam was involved in organic chemistry oncology research, the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society, and a teaching assistant for the Honors Engineering Program. Prior to graduating, she worked as the MATLAB ambassador for MathWorks where she developed multiple coding projects and helped teach students how to code.
Hakam graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2022 and was named the Top Engineer and the Top Woman Engineer of her class. Upon graduation, Hakam entered the EnMed program to earn her MD and master’s in engineering while studying in the Texas Medical Center. Her interests lie in surgery, Medical AI, and computer programming with future residency aspirations in trauma, cardiovascular, or general surgery. Hakam’s current research project involves studying HIT in cardiovascular surgery patients at HMH. Her future research aspirations involve surgical tool and method development. During her free time, Hakam enjoys spending time with friends and family. Her hobbies include soccer and running.
