PhD Candidate
Indiana University School of Medicine
Rebecca Wisner, M.S. is a third year Ph.D. candidate in the anatomy education track program at IU School of Medicine. She has eight years of experience teaching gross anatomy, histology, and other anatomical subdisciplines to undergraduate, graduate, medical, and allied health professional students. Her research interests include use of anatomical terminology by students and clinicians, teaching and learning in the anatomical sciences, and public outreach for science. Her current work, which will be presented at the AAA Anatomy Connected Meeting, focuses on anatomical eponyms and their use by clinicians. Eponyms, terms named after people, have been a topic of debate for anatomists for many years due to their questionable history. This work is relevant and timely to many discussions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) in medical education and healthcare. Becca plans to pursue a career as an anatomy educator upon completion of her graduate studies and looks forward to conducting both qualitative and quantitative research to work towards improving anatomical education and graduate health professional education as a whole.
