Research Assistant
USC Keck School of Medicine
Baldwin Park, California, United States
Hello, my name is Jennifer Aguilar and I am a current graduate student in the Integrative Anatomical Sciences program at USC Keck School of Medicine. I received my Bachelors in Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior with a minor in Spanish from the University of California, Davis. During my MS, I am involved in a variety of projects at Keck School of Medicine. I am currently working with Dr. Gopalakrishna to comprehend the significance of molecular docking and its impact towards creating drugs to better understand Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and strokes. Part of my ongoing research with Dr. McGowan is presented in this conference and seeks to produce an atlas on the lower limbs of kangaroo rats and understand how underlying anatomy enables animals (i.e., kangaroo rats) to maneuver in complex terrain with outstanding stability. The findings of this research have the potential to serve to inform the design of new lower limb prosthetics in medical application and the creation of legged robots.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California by my two wonderful Mexican parents. I am eager to learn more about the heart and the brain and how its physiology affects the body. My long term goal is to become a cardiothoracic surgeon and specialize in vascular surgery. While I am preparing my medical school application, I am looking for jobs related to teaching anatomy, where I can practice my knowledge and skills that I acquired during my education at USC and UCD. With my free time, I enjoy Latin dancing, reading, spending time with my family, and hiking to explore nature.
