University of Guelph, Canada
Hello, my name is Aoife McMahon and I am a Masters student in the Human Anatomy Laboratory at the University of Guelph in Canada. I completed my undergraduate degree at the Univeristy of Guelph in 2022, with an Honours, Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences, and a Certificate in Business from Guelph's Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.
My focus for my MSc is anatomy education. When COVID-19 restricrions were at its peak in 2020, educational institutions had to switch to online teacing. With dissection labs and learning hands-on from anatomical specimens being such an integral part of learning gross anatomy, it gives rise to questions regarding how this cohort of students' learning was affected. With this being said, I will be presenting a poster on the differences in long-term knowledge retention between two cohorts; students with an online prosection laboratory experience versus students with an in-person laboratory experience.
My passion is to pursue a career in dentistry. It is because of first-hand experience that I have developed an ever-growing appreciation for the importance of oral hygiene and the world of dentistry as an entirety. I hope to be able to use my anatomy education from the University of Guelph and incorporate it into the world of dentistry.
I am extremely looking forward to attending Anatomy Connected 2023, and to discussing anatomy and anatomical research with you all.
