Dr. Mears is Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology & Genetics at the Uniformed Services University (USUHS). Dr. Mears has more than twenty years of experience teaching Neuroscience and Head and Neck Anatomy, mostly at USUHS, where he currently serves as a Co-Director of the Neuroscience Module in the medical curriculum and chair of several curriculum committees. His long-standing educational interest has been in developing image-based, interactive e-learning tools for Anatomy, in order to foster self-paced, independent learning and review. Several of these creations have been published in peer-reviewed educational repositories. Dr. Mears has received numerous awards for his teaching work and e-learning tools, including the 2020 Civilian Educator of the Year Award at USUHS. When not teaching, Dr. Mears enjoys playing sports with his son and traveling anywhere and everywhere with his family.
